Here Lived
The Katz-Yanay Family lived here: This was the home of Ravid (51), Revital (44), Shachar (12), Shira (9), and Alma Yasmin (5 months).
Ravid, son of Yardena and Moshe Katz, was an educator in every sense of the word. He worked with at-risk youth and helped them build a better future for themselves. Ravid was born and raised on Kibbutz Nir Oz.
Revital, an assistant accountant, was born and raised in Tel Aviv.
She moved to the kibbutz in 2020 to build a life with Ravid, her partner.
The first child they had together, Alma Yasmin, was born in 2023.
October 7th
On October 7, Ravid set out to fight the terrorists, aiming to protect his family, home, and kibbutz. Ravid was killed near the kibbutz clinic, and his body was taken to Gaza by the terrorists.
Before Ravid left to face the horrors of that day, he made sure that Revital and their daughter Alma were safely at the home of their neighbors, the Cohen family.
Revital and Alma miraculously survived, along with the Cohen family. Terrorists broke into the house and tried to breach the safe room door, firing at it with their weapons. Failing to enter the safe room, they set fire to the house.
The Katz family’s house was burnt to the ground by the terrorists.
Shachar and Shira, Ravid’s children from his first marriage, were not on the kibbutz that day.
What Happened Since
On July 24, 2024, Ravid’s body was returned to Israel in a rescue mission by the IDF. He was buried on July 28.
Today, Revital lives with their daughter, Alma, in Kiryat Ono, near her parents. Yardena, Ravid’s mother, lives with the Nir Oz community in Karme Gat.
