Born on December 2, 1947, in Kibbutz Ein HaMifratz, he was the son of Yehudit and Nehemiah and the younger brother of Uzi and Ita. When he was four, the family left the kibbutz and moved to Ramat Gan. He enlisted in the IDF with friends from the Hashomer Hatza’ir settlement group. After his discharge, he arrived in Nir Oz with the group and lived there for the rest of his life.
Yirmi, the eternal mailman and rainman of Nir Oz, was much more than that: Yirmi was an anchor.
He was the first person everyone turned to when looking up the date of any event, whether important or not, and he always had the answer. Whether solicited or not, he would provide all the precise details of the event, including the exact time it took place and who was present — truly a living history book.
Yirmi was always happy to help. Anyone who looked deeply into his eyes could see that his willingness to help stemmed from the purest, kindest place, with immense love for people. Yirmi always had something to contribute on every topic. His words were never delicate and at times could be quite blunt, yet he spoke his truth and always stood by it.
Yirmi had a distinctive sense of humor, a deep love for the kibbutz, was a master who excelled in all his areas of work and interest, and was a man of the community — the community of Nir Oz — and he is deeply missed.
Yirmi was 76 years old when he was murdered on October 7.
Rest in peace, dear man.
May Yirmi’s memory be a blessing.
