Spring Is So Brief Here / David Grossman
There’s a brief moment between Adar and Nisan
When nature truly rejoices
It bursts with life
Drunk and intoxicated
How beauty can heal!
Turbulent and impassioned and scattering
sparks
Yet in just moments will wither and fade
For at its edges, summer is about to ignite –
Spring is so brief here.
Brief and fleeting and heartbreaking
To think that it will soon fade
Its eyes have just opened
Just begun to blossom
Only just given, now taken away.
A youthful and turbulent spring
Its end –
Already written on its budding leaves
Yet it whirls
Like a butterfly in flight
And like it – eternal in its eyes.
And you and I know
And how terrible that it is unaware –
How short is life,
The brief life given to us.
Generous and turbulent and painful
It is so brief here
Spring.
May Aviv’s memory be a blessing.
