Leeor and Ran Natanzon

Here Lived

Leeor (39) and Ran (41) lived in this home with their two children, Sahar (8) and Ziv (6) Natanzon.

Leeor was born in Nir Oz, the daughter of Efrat and Moshe Katz, and the sister of Ravid, Michal, and Doron.

Leeor was a dental hygienist by profession. She worked in the kibbutz dental clinic and also as a medical secretary. Ran was born in Kibbutz Be’erot Yitzhak, the youngest of five siblings. He works as operations manager for FedEx at Ben-Gurion Airport.

The Natanzon family moved to Nir Oz in August 2019. They wanted to be part of the kibbutz communal life, close to their family and friends, especially to Leeor’s mother, Efrat, and her partner, Gadi. On October 6, 2023, the family went to Be’erot Yitzhak to celebrate Simhat Torah with Ran’s parents and siblings.

October 7th

On October 7, at 6:30 a.m., Ran and Leeor woke up to the siren-alert app. From that moment, they were in touch with Doron, Leeor’s sister, who came to Nir Oz with her daughters to visit their mother, Efrat, and Gadi.

Doron and Efrat kept Leeor updated as much as they could until the connection with them was cut off at about 10:15 in the morning.

Contact with Ravid, a member of Nir Oz’s first-response squad, was cut off early in the morning, shortly after he evacuated his partner, Revital, and their four-and-a-half-month-old daughter to the safe room of their neighbors, the Cohen family. He then went to fight the terrorist attack on the kibbutz. Throughout the entire day, Leeor and Ran followed updates through the kibbutz messaging app, which was how they learned of the horrors happening in their home, in their community, and among their family members.

Days later, the army informed them that Gadi Moses, Leeor’s mother’s partner, was kidnapped to Gaza. Leeor’s mother, Efrat Katz, was murdered by the Israeli Air Force’s fire when the terrorists kidnapped her to Gaza. Doron and her daughters, Raz and Aviv, were kidnapped and taken to Gaza, and Ravid, her brother, was murdered, and his body was seized and taken to Gaza.

The Nukhba terrorists entered the house looking for the family. They turned over the beds and closets, and anything else that could’ve served as a hiding place. They fired at the windows, doors, and rooms, wreaking massive destruction.

Our Gadi Mozes, grandfather to Sahar and Ziv, was returned during the second hostage release deal in January 2025, after 482 days in Islamic Jihad captivity.

Ran, Leeor, and the children lived for several months in Beerot Yitzhak and dedicated themselves to the struggle to bring the hostages back home.

Following the return of Doron and the girls, they moved to live near Doron’s family in Kibbutz Ma’abarot.
