Nofar and Amit Goren

Here Lived

This is the home of Nofar and Amit Goren. Amit was born and raised in the kibbutz and was 31 years old in 2023. His parents, Roni and Tammi Goren, live in Nir Oz, and he is the eldest of three siblings: Shira and Shani, both of whom also lived there.

Nofar Steinberg-Goren was 29 in 2023. She was born in Rosh HaAyin and followed Amit to Nir Oz.

They had lived on the kibbutz since 2017, in several different apartments, and had only moved into this one four short months before October 7.

Amit has worked in agriculture in Nir Oz since 2017, and Nofar is a nurse at Soroka Hospital since completing her studies in the summer of 2023.

Nofar and Amit were planning to start a family and build their future together in Nir Oz. They were due to get married there on October 27, 2023. The wedding was postponed in the wake of the massacre.

October 7th

On the morning of October 7, Nofar and Amit were at Nofar’s parents’ home in Rosh HaAyin, and their house in Nir Oz was empty. Within an hour, once Amit understood what was happening, he drove to his military unit at Palmachim and entered the fighting in the south a few hours later, primarily at Kibbutz Be’eri, throughout Saturday and Sunday. At midday, Nofar headed to Soroka Hospital to cover an emergency shift in the emergency room.

Amit’s youngest sister, Shani Goren, was abducted from her home by Hamas on October 7 and released in the November 2023 hostage deal, after 56 days in captivity. His sister Shira was at their mother’s home that day, survived the massacre, and was not physically harmed.
