Ronen was born on March 21, 1969, in Tel Aviv. He was the son of the late Tommy and Rosemary, the brother of Danny, the husband of Karina and the father of Tom, Mika and Yuval.
Ronen and Karina arrived in Nir Oz in 2010 with their two children, Tom and Mika. Their daughter, Yuval, was born there.
Ronen was a man who loved people and the land, an incurable optimist and an engaging conversationalist who approached life with a light heart and always looked on the bright side. The familiar phrase “everything is for the best” was a core belief he held throughout his life.
He had the motto “Always look on the bright side of life” tattooed on his body.
Ronen had a passion for riding motorcycles, and in his four-wheel drive vehicle, he explored the country’s trails, which he knew intimately.
Photography, one of his many interests, eventually became his profession when he became a press photographer. He had an extraordinary talent for seeing the world from original perspectives. Ronen had gifted hands and the soul of an artist.
Ronen loved animals, especially dogs. In recent years, he volunteered as an active first responder medic with Magen David Adom.
Ronen loved the fields and open spaces he found in the kibbutz. He was deeply devoted to his family and a loyal friend, modest in his manner and actions, and would wrap you in hugs accompanied by a constant smile.
Ronen fought valiantly until the very last moment. He was gravely wounded and abducted on October 7, 2023. He was murdered while in Hamas captivity and laid to rest in Nir Oz on October 21, 2025.
With each passing day, his absence is felt more profoundly.
He was 54 years old when he was murdered.
