Here Lived
This is the Bahat-Gome family home. Natan Bahat, one of the kibbutz’s veteran members, lives here. His wife, Neomi Gome, passed away in 2022.
Neomi was an educator. For many years, she played a significant role in the education and culture on the kibbutz. Neomi’s daughter Renana, and her grandchildren Or, Yagil, and Sheer, also lived on the kibbutz. Natan’s son Ron, his partner, and their daughters also lived there, having returned to Israel after an extended stay in the United States just one year before that horrific Saturday. Ron Bahat took it upon himself to lead the rebuilding of Nir Oz after October 7.
October 7th
Natan, who was 85 at the time, noticed the terrorists outside his home. Nevertheless, he made the decision to leave the safe room and make himself breakfast. From there, he watched as his neighbors, the Munder family, Yafa Adar, Ditza Heiman, and Margalit Moses, were brutally abducted.
There is no explanation for what happened next. His home was left completely untouched. Not a single terrorist crossed the threshold. This is one of only six homes in all of Nir Oz that the terrorists didn’t enter or damage in any way.
What Happened Since
Natan, who survived the massacre, returned to live in Nir Oz and has since been helping with the maintenance of the kibbutz and the rebuilding process.
