Efrat Katz was born on November 22, 1954 in Kibbutz Kfar Menachem, the daughter of Tirza and Uri Nao and the sister of Shaul and Orna.
Efrat came to Nir Oz after meeting Moshe Katz on a horseback riding trip.
Moshe and Efrat built their home in Nir Oz, where their daughters, Lior and Doron, were born.
In addition to building their family and raising their daughters, Efrat worked in agriculture in its many branches. The fields – with their colors, scents and plants – were the essence of her professional life.
In addition to her work in the fields, Efrat was active in the kibbutz’s social life. She served as the kibbutz secretary and was active in human resources. In every position and task she undertook, she stood out for her thoroughness, commitment, orderliness and organizational skills.
Efrat loved beauty in all its forms, from her meticulously maintained appearance to her investment in and study of interior design.
Over the years, Efrat became a full-time grandmother, and her grandchildren were central to her life.
Twenty years ago, Efrat and Gadi became a couple and shared many happy and fulfilling years together.
Then came that cruel, evil and murderous day of October 7. Gadi tried to save Efrat, Doron and the girls. He was kidnapped to Gaza, and they were abducted after him and later returned.
Efrat’s daughters expressed how much they missed her in a song:
“All the light has long since gone,
Please don’t suddenly leave too.
Come, Ima, come, Ima,
Come sit with me a while…”
She was 69 years old at the time of her death.
