Here Lived
This is our home, the Sagi family home.
The house was built in 1983, a mere 54 square meters, but we planned it down to the last detail and designed it with great love. It was our warm family nest.
Over the years, it was expanded with two additional bedrooms and another bathroom, and eventually a safe room was also added. The house kept growing until it reached 100 square meters. We renovated, replaced the kitchen, built pergolas and balconies, and it became a comfortable, welcoming home for our children and grandchildren.
Every summer, the grandchildren would come for what we called “grandma and grandpa camp,” and it was the greatest joy for all of us. As they would say: paradise and freedom.
October 7th
On October 7, I, Ada, was abducted from my home to Khan Younis. I spent 53 days in captivity, and that entire time, I constantly thought about and missed my coffee nook on the porch, surrounded by all my plants. I had no idea that my home had been destroyed and looted beyond recognition. The entire house was riddled with bullet holes, and there were bloodstains in every corner (not mine, but from a wounded terrorist).
Within one day, our private paradise had become hell on earth.
What Happened Since
Since that day, I’ve been living in Karme Gat with the entire Nir Oz community. My children packed up whatever could be salvaged: dishes, books, and photo albums. For about three months, I sorted and arranged everything in my new home in Karme Gat.
Recently the house was packed and cleared out, and whatever could still be used was donated.
